The Humanitarian Award of the year went to comedian and activist Eric Omondi. In his acceptance speech he paid tribute to the kids that have gotten school fees and shopping from his efforts.
“I would like to appreciate every Kenyan who has given at least one shilling, ten shillings and every other amount to put the children in school and uniforms,” said Omondi.
He said that he uses his social platforms to ask Kenyans to contribute whatever amount they can afford to support a specific child.
Mr. Omondi started out as a comedian with the famous Churchill Live show. He later branched out on his own to establish his own brand and holding big events such as night of a thousand laughs.
Eric has also worked with different known brands such as Lato, as a brand influencer to promote and sell the products to a wider audience.
Omondi is known to use his voice to confront the biases and injustices that prevail in Kenya. He has called out the mistreatment and underselling of Kenyan music by promoters and big media stakeholders.
Additionally, in 2024 he came to the limelight going to Parliament to protest topless against a raft of issues. This has seen him arrested summarily and released.
